Anguilla launches food security project under Resilience portfolio

Today we congratulate Anguilla in launching one of their projects under RESEMBID’s Marine Resilience portfolio, “Piloting Backyard Recirculating Aquaponics Systems in Anguilla”. This project addresses the need for Anguilla to transform the fisheries and agriculture sectors; reduce dependence on imports; strengthen food safety and security and support healthier, well-balanced diets. Beneficiaries of the project will be able to produce high quality fish and fresh produce to feed themselves, or create a new revenue stream. Congratulations, Anguilla!

Turks and Caicos’ future looks bright with over 100 streetlights!

 The Turks and Caicos government is adding over a hundred hurricane resilient streetlights to the country’s roads and communities through its Resilience, Sustainable Energy and Marine Biodiversity Programme (RESEMBID) partnership. Of the one hundred and forty (140) streetlights, North Caicos will get twenty-five (25); Middle Caicos fifteen (15); South Caicos will get twenty (20); Grand Turk thirty (30); Salt Cay ten (10) and Providenciales will have (40) of the lights installed. Climate change education to be introduced to 4 schools in the Cayman Islands

Four schools in the Cayman Islands will soon be taking part in a pilot project to introduce climate-change education to their curricula. The National Trust for the Cayman Islands will lead this important project with the help of a €163,223  RESEMBID grant. Transforming Anguilla’s Marine Parks

Recently a high-level Expertise France and RESEMBID delegation visited two of Anguilla’s famous marine parks which will be part of the EUR587,024 RESEMBID project: “Transforming Anguilla’s Marine Parks: Institutionalising Sustainable and Collaborative Management Solutions”  which will be implemented over 16 months by the Anguilla National Trust in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources Fisheries and Marine Resources Unit and Blue Finance. The objective is to formalise a co-management arrangement between the Government of Anguilla and the multi-shareholder Management Planning Committee, to develop evidence-based management plans, and identify and develop sustainable financial tools to support long-term management plan implementation for the benefit [...]

Jérémie Pellet Director-General, Expertise France visits Anguilla’s Marine Parks

Jérémie Pellet, Director-General of Expertise France wrapped up his hectic day trip to Anguilla on Wednesday 22nd February with an exciting boat tour of two of Anguilla’s seven Marine Parks – Little Bay and Sandy Island - which were established to conserve ecologically important areas around the island. Little Bay houses extensive seagrass beds, and Sandy Island possesses valuable coral reef ecosystems. Here, Pellet listens attentively as Clarissa Lloyd, Terrestrial and Wetlands Conservation Officer of the Anguilla National Trust, explains the delicate nature of the Marine Parks.

Mission of Jérémie Pellet Director-General, Expertise France to RESEMBID

Director-General of Expertise France, Jérémie Pellet was in St. Maarten and Anguilla this week on a RESEMBID briefing mission mission to gain deeper insight into the programme and the projects it supports. On Tuesday 21st February, he met with Prime Minister of St. Maarten, Silveria Jacobs and heard about the impact of  RESEMBID’s projects on the country and people. He and the RESEMBID team were also on hand to join the launch of Plastic Free SXM - a landmark national project aimed at eliminating single use plastic usage on the St Maarten!
